H1N1 Flu and Flu
Season
With Fall Ball, unfortunately comes the flu season.
The H1N1 flu has not been kind to BLL--just ask the 10 year-old summer DTT
families. Remember that flu can be easily spread from person to person,
and children are particularly vulnerable to the H1N1 virus. Our goal is
to continue the Fall Ball season as normally as possible. To do
this, please take steps to reduce the spread of the flu in BLL.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
recommends the following:
1) Teach your children
to wash their hands
with soap and water or an alcohol based hand rub.
2) Teach your children
not to share personal items.
If catchers masks, bats, etc are to be shared, wipe them
down with an antiseptic wipe.
3) Teach your children
to cover their coughs and sneezes.
4) Do not send your
children to practice or a game if they are sick.
Keep them home for at least 24 hours after their fever breaks.
5) Know the signs and
symptoms of the flu.
Symptoms include fever (100 degrees or greater), cough, sore throat, runny or
stuffy nose, muscle aches, headache, stomach symptoms such as nausea, vomiting,
diarrhea, and feeling very tired.
